We got a tiny taste of your storm last night. It was a warn night and no wind but the mixed swell made lobster hooping last night miserable. It was opening day so we stuck it out. It was the worst lobster trip yet. I'm used to glassy evenings out on the bay. Last night the chop and swell made it difficult to retrieve the traps. We had to approach them down current to prevent drifting over the lines. This put us parallel to the swells and extremely rolly. We managed to wrap the ob prop and spent a 1/2 hour pulling up the motor and unwrapping it. Without power we found ourselves again parallel to the swells hanging over the back to free the prop.
We didn't catch a single lobster but did get 6 large rock crab.
Like Mainesail said stay home and read a book.

Ken, We were in northern Idaho Friday night through Sunday am. and got our butts kicked. We had gusts to 57 mph and very high sustained winds. At times it would funnel down through the canyon and it had a high screeching sound.
From a high bluff we watched 2, less that 30 foot, sailboats trying to come back into the bay and marina. They had to cross an open channel to get there. After over an hour of trying to hug the coast and go up wind they finally turned and crossed the opening taking the wind over the port rear quarter. About 135 degrees with only about an 75 to 85% jib exposed. Those guys were screaming. Heeled over to the rail, launching from wave top to top. They covered that 1 1/2 to 2 mile distance in record time. A sight we'll probably never see again. A real thrill.
