Looks like rat droppings. Termite droppings are much smaller, more like sugar granules.

Yup. Should have just Googled "droppings from pinholes in wood." First hit^^.

The problem is that the bugs are deep in the wood and the pesticide does not penetrate well. Google the topic.

Where are you located? Extreme cold and extreme heat can be good treatments. I'm guessing warm. Perhaps you can tent and fumigate just that area... but they may be more insidious places. They can get into hull reinforcements and important beams.

If you heat the interior up to 140 degrees, it will kill everything. This is done as an alternative to tenting and bombing houses and is very effective. As Thin says, pesticides don't penetrate well but heat does.

I am not a termite expert. My buddy has an exterminating service, he is pretty smart, and he does not remove termites. He refers it out because it is so easy for the termites to re-appear, so he leaves it for the specialists. Is the core of your deck wood? lf so, by the time you see the pellets, they are doing damage. Termites certainly won't eat through fiberglass to remove their waste, so it is hard to see the damage happening. I am wondering if a space heater can bring the temp of a wood core up to kill the termites?
I just bought a 1977 Lancer with repaired termite damage--replaced wood supports and such, and I still see active pellet accumulation is some of the original wood. I plan to replace all suspect wood. I am lucky because my deck has a fiberglass core, but the supports under my cockpit will need to be examined. I have cleaned everything and am monitoring for pellets.

I did this for a localized infestation on my boat as per the above article and it worked. Just one experience.

"After termites eat your wood they expel fecal material called frass that resembles sawdust. If you look closely above the piles of frass, you'll see very small holes where the termites pump their feces out of their nests. Sometimes, the holes will plug up, so if you see a discolored spot of wood above the pile, poke at it. It will give way. At most home supply stores you'll find aerosol cans of termite poison attached to a tube and suction cup surrounding a needle. Insert the needle into the hole and press the applicator for a few seconds.
Don't be surprised if the pressure in the can forces the poison out of another hole a few inches along the wood. Closely examine every exposed wood surface looking for similar holes above the tell tale frass piles. Repeat the treatment. If you are lucky, this is all it will take to kill the pests."

BTW, for those of us in northern climates, leaving the boat on the hard one winter does the job. They cannot stand a hard, sustained freeze. No bugs can. They retreat into the ground or die. In the water is not cold enough.

Well, there is one positive for the long cold winter here on the Great Lakes!
