Hello Everyone, I currently own a 1983 C30, and the wife and I enjoy her tremendously. We are currently looking at a beautiful 1970 Columbia 43, we are sea trialing her today, survey tomorrow. Any thoughts or experiences you may have would be appreciated. I don’t know if I can talk the wife out of her if I tried. It does appear that it has a slight “Catalina smile” just like my C30. P.S. Any suggestion for a boat insurance company? Mine( NBOA) won't go older then 20 years. Talk to you all soon, and thanks in advance Jack Bollinger

Look at Strut

These boat are going back a few years. In the boat yard I had a guy with a Columbia 50 next to me that was finishing up his outfitting (he spent over $150K) so they could cruise Mexico and the South Pacific. While he was working on the bottom he did something and the strut broke. Upon examination it was found that the base of the strut was covered and the breakage occcured right where the metal went from being covered to uncovered. Looked like it may have been de-zincified. He also had similar problems with the rudder hinges. Had to have the parts cast special because he couldn't find a supplier. Hope this helps.

Couple of things

From a friend's experience, check the mast at the base and the support upon which it rests. BTW, he cruised his for years. Good old boats. Rick D.

Progressive

Try Progressive. They are doing a lot here in Florida and the rates are good. State Farm will write older boats but charges a lot more for them. With that nice a ship, you might want real yacht insurance that includes Salvage coverage. I don't think Progressive does. Good luck.
