At the Atlanta Boat show this Saturday we say the prototype H25. I was, to say the least, vastly unimpressed. Hunter has apparently decided that their competition is the Catalina 250 so they have produced a boat with all the shortcomings of that model - about 5 feet of headroom and about the same interior room. The boat show price with trailer and 9.8 HP 4 stroke motor was approximately 26,000.

Let me add...

To you 260 owners out there- keep your boat I am sure it is going to appreciate in value.

Baffled *o

If Hunter really needed a new boat (why?), they'd have been better off re-releasing and modernizing one of their earlier designs like the Cher. 25 or the 25.5. Why is it necessary to reinvent the wheel when they've had successful designs in that class in the past?

Can't compare the two

How many current early model Hunter owners would be willing to pay 26k for something essentially the same? I just don't see that as being a market.

Here one reason Kev

the Catalina 250 cost over 30,000. Where have you been?

So you'd go for the bargain?

26k refers to the original post, but my comment refers to the concept of getting someone to buy an "updated" cherubini at new model prices. Once you add new and popular features like step through transom and a full aft berth, how much could be cherubini? Just can't see it.

I had the same response to the new 27

I just don't know what Hunter was/is thinking. I haven't seen the 25 yet, but . . .

New 25 details

You've seen the new Hunter 25.Any details you can remember would be most interesting. I've been speculating on where Hunter would take the new 25. Here are some questions 1 easy boarding from stern 2 side decks 3 shoal keel apparently long and low with no CB 4 rudder VARA or standard off transom or under 5 draft? Low on trailer for easy launch 6 beam 8-6 or 8-11 like 260 7 length 25 26 8 ballast 9 displacement 10 headroom? You said this appears to be only 5 ft or so 11 hand laid fiberglass with Kevlar 12 inboard opt 13 CE: B or C 14-trailer bunk or keel support 15 plumb bow 16 cockpit winches 17 cockpit roomy like 260 or cramped around wheel due to side decks Thanks for any recollections.

Recollections

You've seen the new Hunter 25.Any details you can remember would be most interesting. I've been speculating on where Hunter would take the new 25. Here are some questions 1 easy boarding from stern- YES 2 side decks -NO 3 shoal keel apparently long and low with no CB-YES 4 rudder VARA or standard off transom or under-STANDARD 5 draft? Low on trailer for easy launch - Shoal Keel 6 beam 8-6 or 8-11 like 260- I think 8.6 7 length 25 26-25 Feet 8 ballast-KEEL but I dont know weight. The mast is shorter and when I asked I was told they had to do that because the boat was tender. 9 displacement ??? 10 headroom? You said this appears to be only 5 ft or so 11 hand laid fiberglass with Kevlar- dont know 12 inboard opt - didnt ask but I doubt it 13 CE: B or C - What? 14-trailer bunk or keel support - didnt notice 15 plumb bow - did not see bow 16 cockpit winches - No 17 cockpit roomy like 260 or cramped around wheel due to side decks - seemed smaller than 260 or 240 Thanks for any recollections. General impression - A H240 or Catalina250WB (without the headroom of the wingkeel version) on just a little bit of steriods.

I'm at the Phila show with lots of pics

Of the H25, BUT forgot my usb cable to transfer from camera to computer. Damn old people can't remember anything. Overall impression is nice boat for about 26,000. lots of room. Reminds me of the the H260. We have a major snow storm coming in with 12-18 inches of snow by Sunday noon. Hope to be home Sunday night or Monday depending on roads. Will post what picture I have at that time. Jim S/V Java

Jim I just realized your home port is Cobb Island. I lived on the island for 3 years as a kid in the early 80's. I visited 4 years ago when I sailed my H240 from Norfolk to Aquia. When I was growing up it was a very quiet place. Nothing to do but sail fish and crab.

Scream if you are still having problems. Sean, still a Peton Place of activity! drink and crab. House prices are starting to climb from what I'm being told. Jim S/V Java

Great Pics Jim!

I like the simplicity of the keel but the interior just doesn't seem as nice as the 260. It does remind me of the Catalina 250 inside.

Ditto Phil

I'm not sure of the interior, but it had decent lines. Is it a swing keel or centerboard w/ballast.
