The old one looks like it was made of neoprene foam. It has shrunk a little and I can see daylight at the corners. Any ideas on type brand and source for a replacement? Also what is a good adhesive for this job? I know this probably belongs in Ask Mac Owners but then I might miss Ross's sage advice. After that through hole informational posting I don't want to run off to Home Depot half cocked. Enjoyed reading that by the way. Thanks, Frank

You might consider weatherstripping

of various kinds (after all, you DID mention Home Depot! :)) Or an automotive store for window sealers in various configurations to fit.

Reseal PopTop

Frank, About 5 years ago I resealed the poptop on 1991 Mac 26. I used an automotive door seal that is commonly called a "D" seal, because of it's appearance in cross section. I purchased it at a specialty shop in Rialto, Ca. Sorry, I don't recall the name and no longer have the records as I sold the boat. Dennis W. S/V FulSailed

A wee bit extreme

3M weather strip adhesive is a bit over the top for this application. Years ago when they would accept it we used the stuff (We called it gorilla snot for it's color and refusal to be removed) on critical hardware like oil drain plugs, axle nuts, and control hardware. I never did find a solvent that would soften it. I don't remember any sort of deal on my first Mac 25 and the one on my current one certainly looks like "Frost King" from Home depot and appears to have been installed by a deranged previous owner, but then again, it IS a Mac. If the pressure sensitive strip that comes on it doesn't work I'd try a light application of one of the "GOOP" clear adhesive products (also available at Home Depot).

has what you want, but I question the need for it, my 222 doesn't appear to have ever had any weatherstripping, but the design has a lip around all openings sufficient to divert any water away from the interior, unless I get carried away with the hose, and weatherstripping wouldn't help then anyway ;) weatherstripping can trap water where you don't want it as well. Thanks Timo looks like configuration F should work.

Same here, the only time I get a leak is when I wash the deck. I have a high pressure sprayer so I want to seal it well. I may change the rinky dink wing nuy bolted latch to something a little more convenient, so I can pull the top down tight. I kind of like the way the front hatch is secured. Frank

Pete Goss's "Close to the Wind"

You know, guys, I've always felt the same way as was voiced earlier and not been too concerned about absolute "waterproofness". However, I just got finished reading Pete Goss's book "Close to the Wind" about the Vendee Globe Race. The preparations on the boats to make transglobal passage including the Drake Passage around Cape Horn really impacted me. I don't know when I'll get back to the blue water to sail, but my perspectives on preparation for bad weather have been changed. I went to "Youtube" and viewed numerous bad weather sailing videos and then the "roll test" of some of the open 60 boats as required by the race committee. I think I'll try that "D" seal for a more positive seal. My attitude about preparation for knockdown has changed though, I really doubt its probability inland.

I don't ever plan on rolling it. I just want to keep my new seat covers dry.
