I got a Venture 222 " I think" for the price of 2 canoes. But she didnt have any sails or a rudder. So I'm building a rudder, but I dont think I should try to make my own sails! Does anybody have some good links to some cheap used sails, or ideas about where to find the least expensive new sails? Or maybe one of you guys have something laying around that will help me get my "new" baby out on the water!

I don't know how much you were looking to spend, but there are a few options out there.

As always, you get what you pay for.

MacGregor (Blue Water Yachts) does carry new sails. Back in the fall, I priced a new mainsail with them for $525 or so. Sail numbers might have been extra, but not much if so.

I, however, opted to go with a mainsail from Haarstick Sailmakers in Rochester, NY. My dad has Haarstick sails on his S2, and the build quality is far superior to the original MacGregor sails that came with my boat. Their prices are steeper...with tax, I ended up paying $836. I would have saved a few bucks, but I insisted that they replicate the "V" and "222" exactly as they were on my original sail. They ended up having to make a template to do it, but the extra change was worth it. However, like I said, the overall quality is excellent. If this sounds like something you're interested in, here's the link for Haarstick: http://www.haarsticksailmakers.com/

And here's the new sail on the boat (just started getting her ready for the lake)

PS-- If you end up wanting to build your own rudder, and want to building something close to original, I made some dimensional drawings from mine. Nothing special, just some hand drawings with measurements labeled in. Just let me know if you want them.
