Ok so I bought a Hunter 23 without a rudder. Is that why I got it at such a good price? I need to know where to get a rudder, hardware, and a tiller. Thanks so much for your help.

Oh well, it could be worse.

Tony, The rudder body was made by: (previous owners of my 23 never through anything away) Foss Form, Inc. Phone (12yrs old)813-577-0478 Clearwater, Florida Construction is F/G shell filled with Urethane plastic. It is one expensive item. The rudder box is another issue. Hunter Marine may be able to help but expect more expense. Tillers are available as a special order item from West (read, we'll make one after you pay for it) The transom hardware (gudgeons on transom pintles welder to rudder box, I believe) is probably available from West. You may want to check the transom carefully as it is a weak point on the 23. All together, replacement rudders are a costly proposition. I hope the price break you got on the boat was sufficient. If You Strike Out

The previous two posts are great advice. If however, you strike out with finding one, I could send you detail drawings of mine and you could make it/have it made. As Greg pointed out, the rudder shell is layed fiberglass over a closed cell foam core. Any place that does fiberglass work could do this. The rudder housing is welded aluminum and could be made easily by most metal fabrication shops. The tiller handle is laminated hardwood and could be made by any woodworking shop. You can contact me at warkat@kctc.net Good luck Ward
