My 9.9 1989 johnson just crapped out. I'm looking for an new outboard motor. Im confused between the 20" shaft which someone in this forum said was too short for a 25' it has to be too short for a 27'! I'm told that most companies are not making 25" shafts any more also I am considering a 4 stroke... forum says it might be two heavy. Also I would like to up the horse power to 15Hp. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

20"- 25" outboard

I just baught an 8hp outboard last weekend. The "standard" that this guy carried was a 20" shaft. But, uou can by an extender to bring it out to 25".

Mercury 9.9 big foot

I have an O'day 26 and it had a 9.9. Chrysler that quite on me July 4th weekend, I had just but $250.00 in a carburetor kit etc. I got totally frustrated and bought a new mercury 9.9 big foot. What a difference...lots of power and it starts immediately. I chose the Mercury over other engines based upon number of dealers around and owner reliability. I am glad I made the choice. It should have plenty of power to push around your 272.
