Hello all I recently took ownership of a Catalina 30 (1986). I managed to make some interior improvements (new curtains), but i really am in need of some resources for a new carpet. all my online searches are for carpet by the yard, do any of you have any ideas of companies that do pre-cut carpet? Or do i plop down $$$ for carpet and $$$$$ for someone to cut it? Any help would be great. Thanks Othello the Newbie

There was a thread on this not too long ago about using carpet tiles. I finished this project about a month ago. I used 17 tiles to complete the job in my 88 Catalina 30. What I like is the ability to lift a couple of tiles to check the bilge or if one gets damaged, you can replace just the one. Jeff

Mine came with a one piece carpet

Hey, when I took ownership of my 85C30 It came with a nice one piece carpet with edging and everything. I liked it a first, after the season got going I found it seemed to slip around, unless it was double faced taped or something, then I found I needed to vacume it often (not my way) then we use the boat alot for swimming and grilling thus sopping wet carped often. Now it is rolled up and on the shelf in the garage. I like to take the hose right down below and clean everything instead of the V word. Try it for awhile and see what fits your style before you invest alot of time and money. Now the curtains are important, if you spend alot of time onboard in the slip. Enjoy!! say no to the vacume!! Bought mine from Catalina. Fit fine and not terribly expensive when you consider cutting, edging etc. KG

carpet in 3 sections

The cpt in my 90 Mk II is getting kinda funky looking. When i replace it im going to have it made in three pieces so you dont have to deal with such a huge a$$ piece to get at stuff. bueno suerte

Rubber backed

I have been very pleased with the rubber backed carpet I purchased from Cabellas. It is nylon with a rubber back. Make a two peice template of the floor area in builders paper from HD. Order the rqd feet of Carpet. The problem is that no binding can be sewn on Nylon with Rubber backing. Use a propane torch to sear the edges from Fraying. No adhesive is used. The backing keeps the rug in place. The 12 volt vacuums are very limited. I installed an inverter to run the 110V. hand vac, blender too.

Check Lowes or Home Depot for rubber backed indoor/outdoor carpet. Not the nylon stuff but the carpet that looks like carpet. Comes in different colors and is very tough. I use it on my dock.

I'd be interested in what inverter you got and if you're satisfied -- getting ready to add one to me "93

Replaceing Carpet

Check out the carpet selection at your local Home Depot and/or Lowes Hardware; Look for carpet rolls that are 12 ft wide and buy a 6ft length. You can then use your old carpet pieces as a pattern and make a one piece installation.
