Recess

I am going down to do some work on the 25 I am purchasing this weekend. I have all the hardware necessary to build a Gin Pole but do not know the measurement from the mast to where the forestay attaches. I want to mount most of the hardware on the forward end of the Gin Pole and make it long enough so that all I have to do is cut the foot to the shape of the mast. Knowing the length will really help in knowing where I want to attach the winch and also not having the Gin Pole a mile longer than it needs to be. If there are any 25 owners that have their boat near them, I would be very thankfull for the measurement. Thank you Dave

Gin Pole

Dave, You could make the pole a little longer and cut it to fit when you get to your boat. If you're using a small boat winch, you can mount it almost anywhere on your mast close to the deck or up near the goose neck. The higher it's mounted, the shorter it's going to have to be so that it isn't in the way of the fore stay. When I built mine, I just figured out where I wanted to install it on my mast. I use a boom vang and it takes up approximately 15" of space between the bow plate and the bottom of the Gin Pole. Your winch hook and sheave on the bottom of the Gin pole will take up no more than 5 inches. So I needed to mount my pole up near the goose neck. I then took a measurement from the front of my mast 90 degrees out to a point about 2 or 3" from the fore stay, and built my Gin pole with those measurements. Joe
