I am sure all new Hunter 260 owners realise they need 1" risers for the Ronstan Jib Cam Cleats. I have not found where I can buy them. Anybody out there found them?

I Used Teak On My 23.5

There are pictures in the Photo Forum. I put Spinlock PX cleats on mine they may be a little on the light side for the big sister but well worth considering.

Get some Seaboard or King Board

John: Try finding someone with scraps of King Board or Sea Board (UV stablized Poly board). You can cut it like wood but no finish or rot to worry about.

Why worry?

I have read several posts on this topic over time. We find it a great design the way they are. Winch on and the sheet pops out of the cam cleat. A good safety feature! Easy to ease out with the winch, easy to re-cleat when wound on. I would welcome other opinions. Perhaps Hunter could comment on their reason behind the design of having the cleat below the winch?

Cam Cleats...

Yes, I recieved a new H260 in June. A friend said we'd need the risers, so I installed the 1" beveled risers. But in a heavy wind the cam cleats don't hold! After the jib flying lose a couple of times we now lash the jib sheet to the whinch. I hate surprises at sea and there's nothing worst then having a gust heel you over and then the jib fly lose.

Think about switching to sheet stoppers.

Another thing to think about here are sheet stoppers. You place them forward of the winch. They are not going to let loose in any wind (maybe the lines will break but the sheet stopper will hold).

Cam or CLAM cleats?

My 1999 H260 has "Clam" (or V) cleats just forward of the winches and a jam cleat just outside. I usually take two wraps around the winch and when the sail is trimmed, make a figure 8 around the jam cleat, tug it home and it stays put until time to tack or adjust the trim again. The clam cleats are there, in my opinion, to hold the jib temproarily to free the winch to tighten a halyard or raise the centerboard. I usually leave the guard wires over the clams to prevent them from grabbing the jib sheets at inoppurtune moments. Fair winds... Tom
