A couple weeks or so ago, I read on one of the sailing boards, maybe this one, about some old coot who had traded the diesel engine out of his boat for a car. Character is more of the truth here. I would tell you we had a nice long conversation, but it was mostly me listening and him talking. Very interesting old guy, although don't think he is as old as I am. When he left St.Thomas, engine less, he sailed back to New Orleans. I would have doubted him, but he then told me he made it up the canals, by towing with his dink. But he did say he sailed through the Rigolets. That in itself is a feat, and I will admit that I have tried it and failed, but I think I could do it, if the tide was running the right way. Any way, I think I will spend some more time talking to this old guy, when ever I get the chance. See what kind of tales he has to tell. I love talking to characters like this.
