I Met A Very Nice Family

Today and saw their beautiful ship that took them two years to rebuild. I was most impressed when I saw the ship there alongside the dock in Hampton, but later when I went to their web-site and looked around and saw the rebuilding process, I became even more impressed. This is well worth the time to spend browsing around. I couldn't believe how bad the damage was, because she was very pristine sitting there today. These guys are living the dream for real.

This family must have some collective positive attitude to take on such a big project and to succeed in taking in to completion. I guess the only thing that concerned me is that, during my extensive, but far from complete review of the site...I saw no mention that anyone knew how to sail!

I've just spent the last hour reading ...

and I have a new appreciation for my "big" projects! They're nothing compared to what this family has done!!

How many people would Build their own masts?!? Screwing, and glueing, over and over. Shaping, sanding 2000 lbs of wood?? are you kidding me?? Just the varnishing would seem overwhelming!

I am in awe. At the sheer size of the job. At a family that do all this together. At a man that see a project like this, and see it through.

The amazing thing was the hull damage and repair of it. But, yes the hours of going over everything over and over and .... They certainly did a remarkable job, when one gets up close within several feet, the detail that you can see is remarkable.

We have a lot of older boats/ships come through here that are amazing. The Virgina, The Kalmar Nyckel, Alliance and others; schooners, brigs, barques, etc. Pretty neat to see these different boats.

I stopped in and spoke with them this afternoon and had a nice breif visit. They are doing well, getting ready to leave in a few days and head up to Delatville and then on up the bay.

Everyone has pretty much run north to get out of the way for the hurricanes, pretty bad season this year.

Wow - great story. Great read - where did the past hour go! I wanted to keep reading but there story on the site just stops in March. Did I miss the continuation? Are they going to keep a running online log? It reminds me a little of Bumfuzzle and tracking their adventure.
