Meaning well, I quickly used a paper towel that had glass cleaner on it on our brand spanking new acrylic windows. Now the windows in galley and head look foggy and scratched.. Is there any solution?? I'll do anything short of replacing them. Please help...

Acrylic response to chemical cleaners

You have learned what I did 45 years ago. I found at that time that a long use of elbow grease and soft cloth with Brasso finally cleared it up. I am sure there are better ways now. Check with a glass shop, there is probably a buff- out for the acrylic. A very fine glass polish or such. Good luck!

Aurora

has a 2-part cleaner specially for windows that are badly fogged up. It sure helped me clear my 17 years old permanent windows and hatches. Available at most boat supplies houses. Some elbow grease required, but not too hard to apply Good Luck

If all else fails...

Replacement lenses are available from Hunter for about $35 each.

Scratched Windows

Glad to know I'm not the only one who ever did this. Try McGuires products. They have different solutions for different problems and it helped mine. S/V Never Say Never

Acrylic Scratches

McGuires Company makes two products/ one for cleaning and one for polishing out scratches on acrylic windows on air planes, and winshields on motor cycles. You might check with your local motor cycle dealer or your local general aviation air terminal and I bet they have the stuff. It works great and without harming your acrylic windows.

West has one too

I use a two part cleaner/polisher that does well with all but the worst scratches. I polish mine every month or so. It might be McGruires, but it's small bottles about the side of baby lotion. One is dark, the other light, about $10 each. Good stuff.

Plexus

I think West Marine and/or Boaters World now carry Plexus. It's in an aerosol can, use it to clean, protect, and remove minor scratches from plexiglass. I first came across this in a product review in a motorcycle magazine a few years ago and have used the product with success. You can pick it up at almost all motorcycle dealers also. Runs about $8 per can. Good luck, Jim Covey s/v Wampeter

Mothers

I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish on my compass. It went form not being readable to looking brand new. Its available at most auto parts stores, cheap too. Rich

thank you all

I don't know what I would do w/out this site. Thanks for all the suggestions. I've made notes - now I will do my homework and choose one of the suggestions.. wish me luck. We will be spending the weekend on the boat so I should have enough time to use a lot of elbow grease.
