When sailmakers quote I measurement, do they take into consideration furling gear. I measured the luff of my 335 and (all my head sails were lost - long story). The luff I got is about 2' shorter than quoted by my sailmaker. Yes, I can hoist a tape measure again but I wondered if all the sage ones here might help also.

No. I is an absolute maximum number, almost theoretical.
Them asking your to 'measure' your boat is different. Normally they will not ask you to measure your 'I'. They'll ask you to measure things that will effect your sail.

As Jackdaw said.. the "I" is not normally considered when measuring for a headsail. The "I" is the hoist...the distance from deck to halyard sheave measured at the mast. The "furler hoist" would be important, though, look at the link...

I guess I should clarify. P and E are the maximum allowable hoist and foot length for the main and should be marked with bands of tape or paint. J and I are strictly measurements of the boat itself.
