This place is such an awesome place to share knowledge and hang out with like-minded people. Wouldn't it be cool if we could have one giant raft-up and party?

The problem, of course, is the cost of trucking everyone's boat to the Pacific Northwest.

Anyone in the region that is interested, a bunch of sailors are getting together at Tall Timbers on the Potomac River (Look on your charts and it is almost directly across the river from Cole's Point) for a gathering on Memorial day Weekend. There should be a lot of us out there. I believe that they will burn a boat in a bond fire on Sunday (they usually do this on holiday weekends).

Most folks are probable already committed to something for Memorial Day ( I'll probable be in Mobjack Bay) ... but
if there was interest for , say, 4th of July weekend and we pick a place somewhere around mid Bay ... maybe like Smith Pt Marina (if the entrance channel has enough depth); you might be able to get some of the Bay folks to come to a raft up. ... Just a thought ..
For you PNW guys ... that will be a range/bearing of ~ 105M,
distance ~ 3200nmi.

What makes this place great is the people. Like-minded sailors with myriad questions and opinions get along well as they trade info and barbs. If only Congress were so congenial.

I will have to let my schedule get a little bit more fixed and then I will start planning. Smith point is about middle distance between Solomins and Deltaville (1 Day). It is 1 day from my area, 2 days from Annapolis and 2 days from Hampton.
This could make for an interesting gathering and if we got a lot of Bay Sailors involved then it would be a blast.

Chesapeake Bay is a very unique are to cruise. The towns around it are really neat to explore and Tangier Island and Smith Island are unlike anything you see anywhere else.

The other idea is to have everyone meet at St. Mary's College for the weekend of Govenors Cup because there is already going to be a huge party there.

I don't know of any other sig things happening that weekend, and some of the folks from the upper Bay might like to make participating (or sorta-participating) in the Annapolis to St Mary's race a good excuse for sailing down.
