Thanks Guys and Maine Sail!
So far it took me about 8 hrs to do the first quarter of the boat,,,,and thats with 1 coat of wax,,,,so Im looking at 3 more days for the bulk total application then 1 day for the second coat of wax.....then a final coat of bottom paint (thats averaging 2 hrs per coat)...so I have 4 days and 2 hrs left!.....The marina called me yesterday,,,they have to move my boat ...again...since Im not ready yet and its Memorial day weekend,,,they expect a lot of parking,,,and Im in the way,,,,oh well.....Ive done a ton of bottom work and now working hard to get the finish right on the hull,,,so Im not rushing, Ill have to wait another week b efore splash,,,what can you do.When we first bought the boat,,,and being nieve with $$$ for this size of a vessel....I paid our marina to wash, polish and wax the hull,,,,while in the water....we were having a christining party and wanted it to look very shiny....they charged,,,,ready!!!!,,,$1,800.00 for the 46' boat!......and it didnt look any better than maine sails technique...as a matter of fact not nearly as nice.....anyway...live and learnRoger follow Scott B's link to Maine Sails post,,,,its very informative....and a good read...As far as costs,,,I ordered everything on line at: http://www.autogeek.net/I orderd 2 bottles of everything and I thinks thats maybe overkill,,,even for our boat, they had good pricing and everything that was on Maine Sails list.I didnt use the Makita buffer,,,,I had a cheap sears craftsman and a vibrating 2 hand Ryobie,,,,The Craftsman,,,did just as maine sail said...it spun so fast it burned the polish,,,,it took me forever to get it back off.....so I switched to the Ryobie witch has a 10" vibrating pad that you change bonnets on....then hand buff....so if you have the Makita, Im sure the results will be even more shinny and easier.I did screw up and use the progression of Comound/Swirl Remover/ Finess it/ Show car Polish/ Wax.....When I should have done: Compound/Finess it/Swirl Remover/ Show Car Polish/ Wax....but regrouped and did it right after the first 6'.......just take your time,,,do a 2' swath at a time,,,use blue tape on your rail to mark your progress with each application....a cloudy day helps.....wax on wax off......good buildup on your upper arms!,,,,I used 2 ladders with a board between to get the max working path without up and down the ladders.Greg Very nice job,,,Hope your in the water!!!!!...just checked the weather its going to be Beautiful!!!Looks like I have at least another week!Maybe Ill take the dink for a spin!
