Hi all, Just got a 2001 Hunter 340 and as I prepare to take her over, I am trying to figure out the preventive mx schedule. I have the owner's manual (I believe it is complete) however it is far from what I was hoping for in offering preventative mx procedures. Specifically, I wanted to see what they recommended for commissioning, decommissioning, how to run the battery switch, their techniques for battery setup (house / start), etc. Is there a book / publication / document that lists the shoulds and should nots or is it just listening to the old head's ideas?

Karmaf16: For a boat owner, there is no better book on boat mechanical and electrical systems than "Boat Owner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual." Use it in conjunction with the www.yanmarhelp.com web site, The best of these guides for marine heads is the "Head Mistress, Peggy Hall's book. I'd buy her book on head operation and maintenance: "Get Rid of Boat Odors", and then if you still have questions ask the "old talking heads" on this forum.

340 Questions

Congratulations KarmaF16. I took delivery of a 340 this past weekend. Now between the two of us we have 340 questions (as in number of questions). It will be a challenge to see what PVO (previous owner) did to/with/on the boat. Maybe we should start a forum just for new owners of old 340s! Just FYI, my acquisition had two house batteries and one died already. I was in a lurch and need "sure start" rather than deep cycle reserves so I boat one of those hot and expensive high CCA batteries for the trip home (motoring) I have a 1/2/both/off switch. Because the new vessel has DC Fridge and five fans (with AC), I would like to add a dedicated starting battery and two house batts. That is yet to come, first I want to clean the sails and get used to her under sail. As for the Yanmar, my 29.5 had a Yanmar. Regular oil and filter changes, clean fuel, and never run full out for very long and we should be set. My 29.5 was 11 years old and she still perks along. I'm expecting the same from this one (although it has not been as well cared for as my old boat was [slam]). Now about that head-I'll post an article tonight and we can both follow it.

Thanks all

Thanks for the advice. I've already ordered Nigel's book and I guess Peggy's is next. We take delivery next week, so until then I just have to wonder.
