All things considered, I don't think the Hudson Valley was hit too badly. Lots of people without power and a lot of downed trees (some unfortunately on houses). I've heard anecdotaly that the Nyack Marina was hit pretty hard and that Haverstraw had a significant degree of damage, but haven't seen it personally. Keeping fingers crossed that new storm coming our way doesn't make things a lot worse just as they are starting to get better.

Sea Bright has just been devastated.Town is still closed to all except emergency escorted checks on homes, but we're 95% sure this is ours - white and green in the middle.

This is an amazing photo...how the heck is the mast of the boats get behind the power lines? or did they repair the lines after the boat washed there?

Those boats recently pictured are at least in one piece.
There is a set of devastating photos posted on shutterfly by a fellow Atomic 4 engine owner of boats and boat parts at the Raritan Yacht Club. You have to click on his link to his gallery: http://www.moyermarine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6918
Warning. It is extremely bad.

At least 50% of the moored boats at Nyack survived as ebsails posted earlier. Club facilities took a big hit though.

Eastern shore of Lake Huron, Bruce Peninsula around Port Elgin did nicely. All our boats were on the hard and none tipped or torn. Thanks God!! We came away unscathed I'd say, in comparison. Hearts go out to all others who have experienced a loss of any kind. Some of those pics were pretty bad scenes. Insured or not, hurts to see so many people's loves lost like that.

Cleveland Shore of Lake Erie

Sandy lost much of her punch by the time Lake Erie was impacted, but we did still sustain 22' waves on the shoreline of Cleveland, and some marinas sustained considerable damage. I am aware of two marinas which lost 36 boats between them. Photo is of one of those. Note the mast rising from the water, and in the upper left the boat off it's cradle. Looks like his in-mast main must have been pulled open...

We had already hauled out Resolution in early October, and were tucked next to their building. I emailed our marina to ask how the marina had fared, and the response was, "If you don't get a call, you were one of the lucky ones, but we did pretty well." I drove out there last weekend to finalize preparations to have our winter cover installed, but frankly could find no evidence of the storm. But, I couldn't see the docks in the dark to see how they looked. Last year we have a few finger piers torn off the docks, and some twisted around the contour of the attached sailboats when one front blew through. In that one, we pulled one cleat out of our dock - it sounded like a shotgun going off. but the other 8 3/4" and 1" lines held. Despite 3 seawalls between us and the open waters of Lake Erie, we occasionally get 2-4' waves rolling through our marina when the winds are out of the NW.

Blessings to all on the East Coast who sustained damage or are enduring power, fuel and services outages. The entire nation supports you in your recovery efforts. We are truly sorry for your losses.

Day after the Big Sandy, My wife and I went down to the marina. We are on the Hudson River, in Ossining,NY.At low tide, the river was half way to the parking lot. There had to be , twenty boats of all sizes, mushed up against a big brick warehouse. Along with trailors, gangboxes and docking. I looked out, to see if I could find our sailboat , and there she was. Standing tall rocking back and forth, like it was waving to us.
We went back down there,5 days later , the yard was all cleaned up ,boats back on stands.Very lucky ,we were.Yes, we lost power ,at home for seven days.Hoping to get out maybe, one more time, atleast to run out the gas in our outboard

Many of the boats in the Great Lakes were already hauled for the annual winter lay up. And those still in the water were, for the most part were given enough warning to properly belay the boat and safely tie to a berth for the duration of the storm. My hopes for a good outcome for those on the east coast go out to those in the sights of this terrible event. Fair winds and better days for all...

True enough, however, the marina lift was out of service 3 weeks prior to the storm. It pushed up out-hauls 2 weeks.

Spent most the weekend in Keyport. My boat survived because I had it hauled home the Saturday before the hurricane. The Keyport area is a disaster zone,
boats everywhere on the hard. Most left in the water did not survive or are now floating reminders of the storm. As you cross the Rt 35 bridge and look out into the bay, there are just the bows of boats sticking out of the water, many of them. Amboy Road going into Keyport has boats still stuck in the bridge frame work, boats along the side of the road, buildings in shambles, and many trying to regroup. The yard where my boat is usually kept seemed to be the only one that survived the storm with minimal damage. The loss may only be twenty boats and some of them are repairable. I will post some pictures to my account today.

Got to Islander this weekend and found her a float and looking unharmed. Found evidence below deck that some water had found its way into the cabin but she is 35 years old and despite rebeding certain items always more to do. It was a hard visit as she looked ready to go but winter is upon us here and it's time for her winter nap, so I was there to get her ready for her trip to the land.

Much work this winter new ports and hatches and some minor electrical. I hope when I am as old as she is in people years they can fit me with no ports and deal with the occasional leaks.
