Hi everyone,

I have had a machine shop make up a batch of marine bronze bushings for the Hunter 22 centerboard/swing keel. I know that many H22 owners need to replace the original nylon bushing when they find too much play in the swing keel, so I thought I'd get a few more made up so that if anyone else needs one, I could have one on hand to sell to them.

That said, you can contact me if you want a nice marine grade bronze bushing for your H22 centerboard overhaul.

Thanks,
Kristopher, the "Sprockett"

Sounds doable, shoot me a price. In the meantime, I'm cutting the centerboard away from the hull preperatory to removing it. the job was done so poorly that some of the resin hadn't even fired off.(It's been at least five years since this 'repair' was attempted.)
Question; how is the keel normally removed? I've got a picture from the archives that appears to show the angle bracket mounted to the bottom. Do you first remove the brackett bolts and the keel and then take out the through pin? I don't want to damage further this hull if I can avoid it...

Hi Tim,
Assuming that you mean the swing centerboard version of the keel and not the fixed keel, then you remove it like this:

You need two feet underneath the hull. The boat must be on stands with enough clearance to remove the board. You can't remove the board on a trailer. Support the centerboard with blocks so that you can remove the bracket without the board dropping free and hurting you. Remove the floorboards in the cabin.

On either side of the centerboard trunk under the floorboards will be four bolts and nuts. Two are on each side. Now you know where the bolts are. Remove the table on top of the centerboard trunk. Disconnect the haul line that you find in the top of the centerboard trunk.

Go under the boat and locate the brackets that hold the centerboard to the hull. In each bracket are the phillips head heads of the bolts.

Have a friend hold tension on a screwdriver on one bolts and remove the nut from the other end inside the cabin. Do the same for all four bolts.
Then just remove the bolts. Now you can lower the centerboard along with the mounting brackets to the ground.

Hope this helps.
