I'm doing the topcoat and bottom paint on a Valiant 40 this week. I've always said, if ya can't find a job, make one and have done so before. Now I can use my refinishing skills as well as my boatwright skills to benefit others. Kinda stoked here...

After I finished doing all the exterior work to my boat, I kept thinking about the list of things I have done for myself but never want to do for someone else.

I've found that I enjoy the boat work as much, if not more, than I did the aviation work I once did. Beats the hell outta staring at code all day.

We finished up the bottom prep today and started on the prep above the waterline. We should finish that tomorrow and be ready to prime.

The boys rubbing out the ablative with Acetone soaked rags.

You can see where they've been since it takes about 40% of the old paint off.

The rest lays right down nice and smooth.

There's no pollution or dust to deal with and only about an hour of sanding is needed at the waterline and on chips. The yard loves us for this....

Outdoors with a breeze. Soaked into the rags with no drips (very good rags). I suppose by some freak occurrence, some could get in his eyes. I reckon I didn't consider it. Next time....
