Rat guards for mooring lines

Put rat guards on your mooring lines. The US Bavy uses them on every mooring line on every ship.
The ones in this photo are flat, but the ones the Navy use look like big funnels.

Great idea, but would probably also get you thrown out of your nearly free dock space!

Many excellent deadly ideas....

Traps, bait, guards = good. Creative but not applied will be guns in town, extra cats, anything Roseann and whatever might set the SPCA save the rodent club on me. With a sugar scoop stern I'm inclined to think that a wharf rat will swim a few feet to easily get up on the stern where I hesitate to put HD traps and such.

I have noticed a distinctly dead odor around the dock so maybe the bait is taking a toll on the tribe wherever they hide. I know I can't get them all but I'm going try to clean these beasts out before I just give up.

Pet aligator, keep himat the stern of the boat as they swim out to it CHOMP no more rat. When the rats are all gone and the gator is too big for a pet BAM BBQ and new boot and a brief case.

Moth Balls

Such a plethora of ideas and responses !!!! many worth trying .. and reminded me of going out to a friend's chicken ranch, as a kid, and plinking away at the rats with pellet rifles. But I digress.....

We had a rodent invasion at our house and found that poison was good at killing the little devils but then the stench of the rotting corpses was worse than the pantry invasion. We found that moth balls (aside from helping to mask the odor of their deseased comrads) were effective in keeping other invaders away. Not sure how I would scatter tham around the dock and boat but some sort of perforated containers or mesh bags that could be zip-locked and put away in the dockbox or left at the dock when you take the boat out might work.
