I need help.... I am in a new marina and obviously at a new slip. I am the last boat from civilization at the marina and for some reason the birds love to hold meetings on my boat It has gotten so bad I have taken the dodger, bimini and the connector down. My boat is a 2002 356 and the canvas is not repelling the droppings very well. I have cleaned it and I am in the process of coating it with a repellent but I still don't want to have to clean it everytime I go down to the boat I have suspended CD's in the rigging and they have helped a little, but I need something better Do any of you guys have a good solution?

That is the price we pay for being able to

sail year round. I was just thinking about that the day before yesterday as I hosed the boat down to get all the crap off of it. Owls, CDs, streamers they hardly work. Last year I had one that would perch himself up on the pedestal guard and discharge all over the canvas cover; I hope he died over the summer>

My son,...

...calls them flying rats. Had a similar problem with terns. I got a spool of that yellow tape they use to rope off an area. Run it all around the boat and hang fruit tree netting from the backstay draped across the stern rails. Solved the problem. It's a pain to have to do it but it does work.

I once heard a question?

Did you ever see a seagull in a tree? Why no I said, why is that? Answer is they have webbed feet. They prefer/need a flat surface for their feet. So if you want to eliminate your problem, make obstacles so they cannot land on a flat surface. Many people use netting - or stretch bungee netting. It may take 10 minutes to remove and install the fix but, if the gulls cannot land on your boat the worst you will get is fly by droppings.

A dummy.

lol. Swipe a mannequin from your local dress shop or department store, stick a sou'wester and a pair of sunglasses on it and prop it up in the cockpit. Nautical scarecrow.

Try a tarp...

...over your dogder/bimini. It is easier to mount and dismount a tarp than it is for the csnvas. Use the tarp to save the canvas until you find a way to get rid of the birds.
