Update on the survey issue: First off I do not blame the broker for the issue that occurred. Massey Yacht Broker was very professional as was Susan their representative. She was taken by surprise as I was when the issue was disclosed. The boat owner and I have come to an agreement on reimbursement of survey costs. Now to start looking again for a boat...

You are lucky

Not so much for the refund, but that you didn't get a boat with dubious history.
But most importantly, you learned a whole bunch in the process.
I'm confident everyone on this forum has made mistakes with either gear, contractors, crummy sails, etc.
But, boats are complicated toys, and there's only one way to get educated; through experience.

very surprised at Massey. I've met him several times and surprised he didn't make good on your out of pocket costs. It would have bought him far more than the cost of the survey!

based on what i have read here i don't think Massey was at fault just the dubious owner ..as i see it Massy also was a victim in this farce

Maybe it just shows that a broker should do a bit more due diligence prior to taking on a boat.

PGIJon;

I use to be a sailboat dealer for many years and have earned the respect to speak on this issue.

I use to broker boats too. For those larger boats in the water, we could only go by what the owner revealed which was obvious that the owner of the 310 did not reveal that information of the keel to Massey. If Massey's people had been made aware, trust me they would have made notice in their representation of that boat in the listing. I have known the owner for years and the reputation of Massey is excellent among his customers and in the industry. To anyone to suggest otherwise, they do not know the integrity of Massey Yachts.

I always have said, put yourself in their shoes. In any situation, there is always two sides to a coin and to go based on what has been said here is only one side. Like I said, I have known the integrity of Massey and all who have dealt with them personally who will vouch for them as well.

I am the one who had the survey done, my previous post states that I did not find fault with the broker, only the seller. Massey was very professional in this situation. This is not one sided from my point of view
