Today was going to be the day things were going to be starting to go back together. I had the new cutlass installed, the shaft log looking good and the shaft lined up pretty close. The new bellows for the seal and the O rings for the collar should be here today. Well, the O rings made it anyway. But no bellow. Don't want to do anything more on the rudder till the shaft is completely done, lined up and I don't have to crawl down in that hole anymore. Don't want to end up having to pull the rudder post again. OK Can't do that, so going to get the quadrant off the shaft, and get the shaft straightened and ready. It took two of us over two hours to get the quadrant off. Took a lot of heat. First used a drift and a big hammer to no avail. With lots of heat. Then took a 1/2" impact and more heat. Ran the impact forward, then reverse, then forward. Back and forth. Finally had the bolts out and the quadrant off. Did I mention it tool a LOT of heat. Now into the press with the shaft. NO GO. Not even close. Did manage to put enough pressure on it to make a flat spot on it, but still have about a 3/4" bow in it. So now, I don't have a bellow to finish the prop shaft, and have to order a new tube for the rudder. Hurry up and wait, and oh yeah, while you wait, throw some more money into that hole in the water.
