in several of the threads Ive read here lately I have noticed several folks saying something like "boats are a luxury" or "you dont really have to have a boat"! well, I disagree! in the last 23 yrs since Ive took up sailing, I have always had to have a boat! even when I really couldnt afford one, I scraped up $1400 and bought an old 24ft Venture. sailing is my drug of choice! Ive gotta have a sailboat! ;)

I agree...I just started sailing this past May and I am addicted...I have logged approx. 200 hours since then. I started with a MacGregor 25 and now have a C&C 27. We are already planning our trips for next summer. My only regret is that it took me this long to buy a boat because I thought the cost was too much, but there are some really great deals out there. I also found that you don't really spend more you just spend it differently. It is also a great family sport and has really brought us together!

I SECOND THAT EMOTION

IV JUST FINISHED MY SECOND SEASON IN "GALILEE" MY CAT 28. ALTHOUGH WITH THE BOAT PAYMENTS ETC AND MY WIFE SAYING WE CANT AFFORD THIS TOY I GET DEPRESSED WITH THE IDEA OF SELLING HER. WHY, IM EVEN THINKING OF GIVING UP THOSE FINE HAND MADE CIGARS I ENJOY WHILE IM AT THE HELM. JUST THINK OF ALL THE MONEY ID SAVE.I COULD LIVE WITHOUT THEM BUT GIVE UP MY BOAT? I DONT THINK SO. IT SURE BEATS BLOWING ALL MY MONEY AT SOME GIN MILL AND BESIDES, I CAN REMEMBER HOW I SPENT MY TIME. HERE'S TO A GREAT NEXT SEASON. KEN

Well,

I guess we all come from the sea originally anyway, that is zillions of years ago, so perhaps that is why we all need our "hole in the water into which money is poured".

Last week I put my 23.5 on the trailer.

Last week I put my 23.5 on the trailer for the “winter”. That lasted 8 days before I HAD to get Miss Lisa back in the lake. I don’t know what I’m going to do when the lake gets hard. maybe look into an ice boat. Bundle up REAL good and sail all year?

Sailors and Gin Mills

"It sure beats blowing all my money at some Gin Mill" With all due respect there is a long and proud heritage of sailors and to uphold the tradition you are expected to blow all your money in Gin Mills and then go sailing to dry out. This tradition is upheld in our Navy and the entire fishing industry also upholds this tradition. As a sailor you are not entitled to a choice of one or the other you are expected to do both. dave

Therapy is

"Therapy is terribly expensive" i sth line from the Buffett song. Sure I've spent and continue to spend money on my sailing habit but its better than therapy! Or as the old line goes..Most of my money I've spent on boats and women; the rest I just wasted! ;D ;D
