My wife and I just returned from a cruise. One of the excursions was to race 12 meters. This rich canadian bought 5 of them including Stars and stripes. I had he chance to race on KC-12. This was on the Island of St. Martin, the water was great and the wind was about 18 knots. There were about 19 people on board and only 5 knew anything about sailing. The captain let me have a try at the helm for a good bit of time and then we won the race. not really beacuse I was at the helm. They are very responsive and excellarate very fast for the size. I will try to post pictures. Skip "Kid Napper" Cat27

In the summer in Newport...

...there is a fleet of of about 8 12's that does the same. Actually, you can charter the whole boat for corporate events such as team building, etc. They are out there every day and in all conditions. Sometimes they will put on a show and sail right through the mooring field in the harbor. It's quite impressive. Stars

We raced them last summer!!

Ok so we didn't really race them, however timing is everything. Late one afternoon my 16 year old son and I were out for a casual sail on Narragansett Bay, when I would have paid big bucks for an overhead photograph. We were aboyt 200 yards in front of S

If you're ever in Nassau....

There's a company in Nassau with two IACC boats that sells rides to the public. For about $90 you can crew as they race each other. I haven't done it yet, but I've seen the boats on the water at very close range and they're very impressive. Peter H23 "Raven"

Been on the America's Cup Charters in Newport...

Sailed on the "Weatherly". Had the helm for alomst half an hour. What a rush. Well worth the money at least once a season. I'm organizing a charter for our club this upcoming season. Here's the link to their website. Cheers, Bob

Glad to hear they're still at it.

We did the 12-Meter excursion in St Martin a number of years ago. I was very impressed with the good show they gave us when rounding the last windward mark overlapped. They actually smacked the boats together, rail to rail! Had my adrenaline pumping! I think that of all the cruise ship excursions I’ve been on, this was my favorite. Of course, watching a woman on the beach take her early morning swim topless, while we waited to head out, didn’t hurt either. Sad part was my wife had to point her out to me. I’m getting a little slower in my old age.
