I got to go sailing today...

Hey All:

So it is my third week with my new-2-me 1995 H26... and after the test sail with the P.O., I spent the next three weekends running down electrical problems. Got them all sorted out today except for the charging system on the outboard... and I had 3 hours before sunset..... went for a sail.

I LOVE THIS BOAT! She is so easy to single hand. I also got a chance to run her through some paces and she points a lot higher than I expected. For some reason that I don't understand, she points a bit higher on a starboard tack than on a port tack and sure does hove-to easily. I wasn't sure how she would do in a hove-to situation with such a large main and smaller genoa... but I parked her in the middle of the lake and took some bearings and after 45 minutes... I was in almost the same spot.

I'm a happy camper. Next on my to-do list is to get a decent guide for the Great Dismal Swamp and start planning a trip from Norfolk, VA to Oriental NC. I got the other charts I need, just don't have a good guide for the GDS.

Welcome to the H26 crowd! What kind of outboard do you have? You will love the amenities of the H26 for cruising.

Rob;
I would like to ride your boat again. It was a pleasure with the previous PO but it has been years. The two wires out o the engine, did you ever figure that out. As for the Dismal, if there is any concern of snakes, they can be seen in the trees sometimes and have been known to fall in the boat. In the Albemarle, it is shallow and if there is a storm, stay put or you will be chumming overboard. Going to Orinetal, suggest that you wait till spring. I can give you a few pointers.

That's why you should *always* keep a shotgun onboard. And a through-hull depth sounder that needs to be installed.

And carry another big 'ol through-hull for when you blast a hole in your boat. :doh:

Thanks.... the O.B. is a 2014 Honda 9.9 pull start. I have zero volts coming out of the charging harness and the fuses are okay so... maybe the rectifier?

Thanks Dave... You are most welcome to come for a sail. The O.B. is still not charging.... I left a voice message for Tom H. but so far no reply.

Regarding the Albemarle... I've sailed it many times and I've been to Oriental three times so far. I love that part of the coast. North Carolina has so many empty coves and spending a day on the hook reading a good book is one of my favorite things to do.

I'm from Louisianan and when we would go to the "camp" during duck season, my uncles carried a pistol grip 410 shotgun and the shells were packed with sand. You could stun the snakes without putting a hole through the camp wall.

Can't help you with that particular motor although it would seem strange to me that you would get zero volts unless it's s broken connection. Any AC volts? Are you measuring with some load on the output?

So far I've tried everything in the trouble shooting manual but that stops at "check the fuses". I'm hoping it is still under warranty but I need to run that down. It is possible this boat took a surge. When I got her .... three of the fuses in the house panel were blown, and all of the nav lights and two of the cabin lights were blown.... Also the Guest Pro dual bank battery charger was not working and last, the O.B. charging system was not working. So... my guess is it took a surge that fried the battery charger, the rectifier in the O.B.'s charging system and the fuses in the house panel. I've fixed everything but the O.B.'s charging system. If I could find a schematic, I could run it down. I could try uTube I guess. Seems you can find almost anything on uTube these days.

Cyprus...

The hunting camp was way out in the swamp (look up Forked Island LA) and you could only get to it by boat. It was basically a wooden box with bunks on three walls and a pot-belly stove in the middle for heating and cooking. Some of my best childhood memories were made there.
