Hey, what a cool thread. I got a boat too! 30 years thinking about it and BANG, I got a boat. That they can really go somewhere, sail the world even, well, if you have a good one and you know what your doing. That your part of a life handed down through centuries, requiring knowledge to make it all work. No longer just a rider, hand on the throttle, listening to some screaming pounding fuel sucking beast, but a step up to being a genuine sailor. Even a newbie is a sailor of his own sailboat, where a PB operator is just "a driver".

And we dont have to sail round the world to enjoy it, we can just sit out on the lake and dream about it, ponder the possibilities of our new found freedom, watch the sails bend with the breeze. PB operators simply cant do that. Thats probably what irritates them so, seeing us out there, sailing along, not burning fuel, in silence.....

Come on, ya ever see paintings of powerboats on anyones walls?

thanks for starting this thread, I had goosebumps reading others descriptions that I could have written myself......I think one of the best parts is our connection to other sailors....as if we all have the same secret.

I don't think there is ever a time that we don't mention how happy we are to own our boat and often I find myself overwhelmed by emotion as I watch the sun go down, music playing and wine in hand. Its a fantastic way to live.

...sharing an evening sail with our son...what could be better?

Squidd,

That's great news man. Also, as a boat owner, my condolences (LOL).

Most (non-boat owners) folks always question the logic of wanting to own a costly expenditure. If they haven't felt the joy of flying with the wind, they will just never get it.

I often say "sailing is hours & hours of total relaxation, intermittant with moments of shear TERROR".

and/or,

"Sailing is like camping WITHOUT the dirt............
with the possibility of DROWNING"!
