It was gas that has been in my boat for over three years. I filled up my tanks (2x30 gal) in April '05 before heading south to my home in Chula Vista. I have used very little since then. Maybe 10 gallons a year. Well the gas was old and I didn't want to use it in my outboard. I placed an ad on Craig's List and got one response. I said I'd sell the gas for $1/gal. Only one response. Today I met the guy and he took about two hours to get the majority of the gas out of my tanks with very little spillage. And I mean very little. When it was all done, he asked how much and I said nada. For some reason I did not have it in my to charge for the gas. So I gave about $120 worth of gas away for free. Anyway, I now have a 6 gal container I'll use in lieu of the 60 gal on the boat. Might have those tanks removed and put in new plastic 10 gallon tanks.

Brian, when I was rebuilding my boat,

I didn't start my Camaro. She sat for over three years with the same fuel in the tank. When it was time to breathe life into the beast, I pulled the plugs and cranked it to check for oil pressure. It was there. Reinstalled the plugs and hit the starter. VAAAAROOOOM! Didn't miss a beat. So why does my lawnmower gas die over the winter? As far as your tanks, wait. Removing capacity is detrimental to range and safety. Not to mention resale value. Sit tight. This dark cloud may pass. Depends who's in the White House.

OK...

So then the next option is to clean said tanks. That in itself may be a chore. I can still remove the tanks to do the cleaning, I think.

Gas doesn't last long

Of course it's all part of Big Oil's master plan. Pump something out the ground that's been there for millions of years and turn it into something that has a short shelf life. Now if we can just stop using the stuff. A few months ago I took 20 gallons of old gas to the hazardous waste collection. I didn't think I could get good mileage from it and we aren't allowed to have big backyard fires where I live.

But we are sailors...

Therefore, better than the masses. Therefore, these shan't be any firing up of anything. Lets treat this as a good deed thread, nothing else. *5
