The problem is shipping it from St. Leonard MD to Burbank Ca. Does any one know of a shipper who can handle a 36' mast?

I know a guy... He trailered my 21' sailboat from Mass to Florida for $550. He is extremely trust worthy and communicates well. I don't know if he goes out to Cali, but call him and sort it out. Tell him Andrew recommended him.
Robert Dittal (386) 562-2235 He can be found on Citizen Shippers.com

PS I tried Uship and the bids were crazy expensive. They may have eliminated the middle man but they aren't discounting it...

Contact various boat movers. If you have time to wait, they will add it to an existing shipment of a sailboat going the same route. My guess is it will be over $500.

You will need to pack it WELL. Strip off any extra stuff like spreaders. Then buy a big roll of bubble wrap and the clingy wrapping "tape". Pad the whole thing, wrapped with the cling wrap. Then strap the spreaders on with more wrapping and padding. Use thin carpet scraps on the ends and in the middle where it would get lifted and anywhere else.
It will be exposed to weather but also to rocks, road grime, diesel soot and more.

If your in Cali, I assume you are not interested in going to MD to set this up and prepare the mast for transport. The seller needs to step up and figure this out, he is the one who will have to prepare it for shipping and deliver it to a shipper, insure it, etc.. If he isnt cooperative and very competent, you probably should keep looking.

Your taking a lot of risk if your buying it sight unseen and trusting the sellers packing skills.

Called them and they only contract with the city, they no longer dispose of the boats. They suggested M Swede, called them and they referred me to a John Howard.
Spoke with John and they cut the boats and masts up at the boats location to make transporting easier. They hav no way of transporting a 34' mast. I asked if one came up if the could call me and I will remove the mast and transport myself. He said he will call me the next time a Catalina 27 comes up.
