I am losing my mind to the horrible winter we have had here on Cape Cod. Everytime I try to go do work on my boat this blasted weather comes in. I have a survey being done next weekend for the insurance co. for my 33'and I need to get some more upgrades done. The hell with the survey I just need to get back in the water. Anyone up to a competition to see who gets theirs wet first.

I hear yah pal!!!!

April 12 (maybe) for The Odyssey. Gee, that's only 8 weeks away. It's hard to belive that since there is still 2 ft. of snow on the ground in north east Wisconsin. It has been really hard on me due to the fact that I only put on 325 miles last year due to a lightning strike and it was my second season with my new boat. Steve, s/v The Odyssey (H310)

Is there a pill?

Lying awake at 05:00 thinking about boat projects, what IS that?! There are so many more important things to do, aren't there? And putting the boat in the water doesn't help much. Then I lie awake trying to figure out how I'll find time to sail. We plan for mid-April here on the North Coast.

Launch? I have too many projects going!!

Just today I finished sand blasting about 18 years of hard bottom paint off the bottom of my 33. Thickness averaged about .045". Next I have to fill in all the many "pits" left in the weak gel coat, repair two holes in the jull left bu no longer used instruments, Builkd up the rudder to increase it's miniscule size, the keel needs fairing and repair of some manufacturing defects, after which I'll barier prime, 5 coats of barrier coat and 3 or 4 coats of ablative bottom paint. I still have to fit in the new prop shaft strut, (I don't want to talk about it!) fit the "new" used stainless shaft, align the engine, finish sanding, staining and polyurethaning the engine enclosure, repair a lot of the veneer edge banding that's pulling off, finish making a shelf/drawer for the Origo stove that's replacing the Kenyon, and if I get lucky I'll make a new, additional battery box and the wiring that goes with it. And I've left out a lot of the smaller odds and ends. Once again, it looks like I'll be lucky to be in for 4'th of july! Have I bit off maybe a little bit too much?

Yes Sam, way too much.

And I thought I was obsessive. I have learned to take it a day at a time. About this time of year I begin to see what cannot be done before April 15, my target launch date. I'd rather wait until next year or finish a project while at the dock then miss the sailing months. But you have to finish the below the waterline work. I sympathize, I did the barrier coat last Spring. Many, many hours but very satisfying when all done.

I am in the water

I have a new boat[450]and live aboard.I can really feel for you sailors, but your time will come. Now im 70 and used to go through this problem. Now I have to make sure of the money to pay people to haul, wash, paint and wax. Nothing is always right.

Boat noises.

John, We live and sail on the upper Columbia river in Washington State about 100 miles upstream of Grand Coulee dam. Because of the power crunch they have lowered the water in the lake 60 FEET to make electricty Thats right, 60 FEET below summer levels and in yesterdays paper they said 10 to 13 more can be expected in the next week. Sooooo...my wife and I take our coffee out to the boat, roll back the covers for the stern seats talk, drink coffee and make boat noises.....

unless they drain all the water out of Lake Travis! I lived down there for several years & saw travis down so far that sandbars became Islands, Marinas literally had to move out of coves into the (once again merely a) river channel. IMHO the winds on Travis were too fluky on account of the topagraphy of the area for Travis to be a good sailing lake. (I know that there are thousands of sailboats out there though). -- Craig

Question for all of You on Lake Travis

On my first date with my wife we went water skiing out of Pace Bend. I took her up the Pedernales and we ate lunch at Mona's, the best Enchiladas anywhere. I was thinking of taking her back there does the place still exist?

I decided to take my wife out into the yard....

Ok so you all are having fun in the water while I look at my poor boat in the yard covered in snow and pleading to be in the water. I took some advice to make coffe and small talk on the boat one morning and then maybe some boat noises but it was to cold to get the big johnson out! I'll have to wait for a thaw!

I hear ya buddy!!! I am in Seattle and I am getting damn sick of getting off by boat every morning and waking up to 2 inches of ice on the dock. I am headed to San Diego on June 1st and out of this cold NW weather. It's HAHA bound for me!!! :)
