For my ohhhh sore fingers! Buytl Tape smoothing and shaping. Gawd I'm sick of the stuff!
My deck/anti leak project is finally concluded after 6 weeks of of nights and weekends of grinding/gluing/sanding/taping/sanding/cutting/sanding/drilling/sanding/more gluing/drilling/redoing/shooting self in foot and redoing again/dodging snow-rain-hot-cold/almost giving up and selling damn boat.
Finally re-bedded 40 various fittings and all associated fasteners using Mr Maine Sails tape and banishing once and for all PO's in effective silicone.
Replaced most of the fore deck (should have done all of it),
One complete side deck.
Partial other side deck (also should have done all of it)
Replaced Cabin top where mast step is.
Both cabin windows (deleted frames and went to glue on).
Last year I had to recore the entire cockpit floor.
And at the end of all of this she ain't no prettier yet (except windows look pretty nice!).
If this old thing leaks from above now - I'm selling it! (probably not....)
There were times I had to force myself to just get out there and continue. My neighbors think I'm obessessed. I can't imagine what it would have cost to have a boat yard do all of this.
20/20 hindsight:
Should have bought a different boat (learn then buy - not other way around).
Should have just took the deck off like other have done in first year and just recored everything all at once.
Should have built a tent over the boat during the work.
I'm really not very good at boat building (hence the recurring shooting in foot).
Now we can go sailing this year finally (soooon) - (gotta repair that ragged old main sail agin)
It's going to be worth all the pain I just know it.
This forum inspired me to endeavor to persevere.
