Well, I pulled the trigger and we bought the O'Day 25. I think the hull number is 1192. I bought this boat with my brother who also owns a larger sailboat that is currently in Mexico. The O'Day has spent probably the last 10 plus years in fresh water. I live near the ocean, so we will take on the waters of Monterey Bay as our most common area to sail. We plan to keep it on the trailer and just trailer sail long weekends at a time. Its a fixed keel model so that adds some launching challenges.
So now the fun begins. I have some items that are a priorities before we take it out. Probably the most urgent is to replace the plastic through the hull fittings with bronze ones and add some sea cocks to them. We need to build an a-frame as rbone suggested to make stepping the mast easier. The boat seems like it was in very good condition with a solid transome, chain plate bulkhead, and mast stepping area of the deck.
After that .....lots of boat projects. Those include, adding and updating electronics, Adding a better front wheel system to the trailer for better launching, trying to find where the cabin leaks, re-caulk the chainplate and mast step plate area of the deck, try to neutralize some of the musty smell in the cabin, add shore power and a battery charger, rename the boat, needs a good buffing out and wax, improve the braking system on the trailer, .....lots of boat projects.
I am not new to boats, so I know there is ALWAYS boat projects, but I love boating anyways. What will be fun about this boat is learning how to use all the different sails that came with it.
If anyone has suggestions about any of my projects, I am all ears and would love to hear suggestions. For now I only have the old pictures of the boat but will post new ones in the near future. Thanks for all the prior info you guys supplied before we made the purchase.
