We purchased a used 87' model 26.5 this spring and I have a couple of questions for the pros. Does anyone have pictures of stern rail seats installed on a 26.5. I was wondering how the seats would clear the split backstay bridle. I have a block and tackle for backstay adjustment on the port side and was wondering about clearance. Also, is the list to starboard just part of the package, or is there something that I can do to try and flatten the boat out. I am also contemplating purchasing a new motor, currently we are running a Nissan 9.9 two stroke and I prefer a four stroke. What would be the minimum Hp? I have heard 9.9 is good, but 15 is better. I would rather not go to a 15 if I can stay away from the extra expense. Currently I am looking at Honda and Nissan 9.9 electric start models. Due to the weight of these units, I think the starboard list might just get worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

h26.5

i owned a 1988 model h26.5 for 6 years...raced, cruised, and everthing else a young family can do with a sailboat. Feel free to email me at gm18sail@aol.com anytime. The 9.9 hp was always more than sufficient on my h26.5, you might want to get a "high thrust prop" on your 4 cycle however. As for the listing problem you will just have to keep the heavy stuff out of the cockpit lazarette and adjust your crew weight accordingly. You might consider relocating the battery to underneath the aft berth on the far forward port side or in the aft compartment of the port side settee which would help some. Good luck and enjoy your boat, it is definitely an enjoyable boat to sail!

agree

I agree with what gerald said about the battery's,especially if you are carrying two of them. I only use one and have never noticed a list. I purchased those after market stern seats for my 26.5 late last season so have not had much experience with them, only problem I have noticed is the starboard one sits on the lazzerette top so you have to remove it to get in to that compartment. If I get out to the boat this weekend I will send you some pics.
