I have looked in the bilde and don't see any exposed keel bolts. How were the keels attached in the Islander 30 MK II?

Stainless steel

My understanding is that the manufacturer used stainless steel bolts which are not visible because they are covered with fiberglas. The keel is fully encapsulated and filled with lead. I have not heard of any keel related construction problems with the Mark II Islander 30's. At least not to the degree that other boats have had due to cheaper bolts, swelling keels due to rusting iron, etc. Unlike Catalina or to a degree C&C no smiles... which makes me happy! That also means we can make jokes about it like Tom!

I made those keels and they were an internal lead keel. There were no keel bolts. Don Huseman

Don...

I stand corrected. I had asked other owners of I30's about the keel and that was what I had gotten. Better to get it right from the source. Don, can you give us a run down of the process that was used when building those boats, specifically the keel, as well as any other specs that you can recall on the I30? Glad to see you've got an I30 as well. That says everything!
