Hydrogen gas vent pipe on batteries

Hi all. I've finally replaced my 2 75Ah 12V deep cycle batteries.
The replacements have vent pipes (I think to vent hydrogen released when charging?).
As the batteries are located in the battery compartment under saloon sole the short ?3 inch pipes vent into the saloon.
As hydrogen is lighter than air can I safely assume it will disperse harmlessly?

Thanks,

Almost every bodys batteries vent into the saloon. In a much bigger boat
where I had 6 batteries I replaced the lead acid batteries with gel
cells as the vent very little. OF course that is not only one reason I
did that the main one being that the gel cells last so long so they wind
up being cheaper in the long
run. Doug

That's what I thought but good to have it confirmed.
Thanks.
