This is our first hurricane season with our 1978 H-27, and although I've gone through 4 other seasons with my previous boat, a Columbia 24, thought I'd ask for any special pointers relevant to the much larger 27. My marina, located on the Intercoastal in Melbourne, FL, requires taking the boat out into the ICW during hurricane warnings and anchoring in a safer environment. Bottom is mostly sand and mud, with no appreciable rocks, but rather shallow, 10-15'. Presently I have two 22# Fortress anchors, each with 12' of 1/2 inch chain and 300' of anchor line. I will detach the dodger and sails and secure everything below decks. The diesel has been replaced by a 9.9 Johnson transom mounted. Should the outboard be in the tilted up or down position? My configuration on the anchors is setting each about 45 degrees out with about 200 - 250' of line. So far, the boat has no leaks and is as dry as a bone, but I am a might concerned in that the bilge pump is currently inoperable. Any additional suggestions are appreciated as "Debbie" might be knocking at our door this weekend!
