Hurricane Sandy?

A little too early to tell for sure, but a potential Hurricane situation is setting up for the eastern seaboard in TS Sandy. The models show real scatter and it looks to be moving east. But a fall low pressure system collision has the potential to have this thing hook left out of the Atlantic and hit Long Island then bounce across New England.

It has been sitting down there SW of Jamaica revving up over very warm water. October 'canes give me the willies, cause they have noreasters to collude with.

And it comes on a full moon...a

Here is a link to the animated forecast track showing it impacting LI next Wednesday (All Saints).

Now's the perfect time to head out of Norfolk and around Cape Hatteras. We'll leave Saturday morning. Should be a good time!

I was planning on putting my Fairclough on this weekend--now I'm wondering if I should wait? Mostly concerned about added windage. Normally I would probably wait, but we will be out of town for a few weeks and this will be our only chance for a while. Would appreciate opinions on whether to cover or wait it out here in Boston??

If you are prepping for a storm, there should be NO canvas on the boat. Take off the foresail too. If you opt to leave the main on (I do), wrap it tightly with a stout dock line or old halyard. A hurricane/noreaster can do a lot more damage than a few weeks of sun, and some snow on an uncovered boat.

Do it for your neighbors, nobody wants to be the guy whose boat crap flailed a neighbor's boat.

Going down tomorrow to work on the boat and will put on double lines when I leave. It will probably pass by and hit you guys up Nawth. can't go anywhere anyway unless I'm towed. I've got no prop or shaft at the moment. Good luck to All on the East Coast.

yep, I did, But I'm plugged and capped real good so I don't see a problem with that.

I was planning the same and have decided to wait until next weekend. I've had the cover on in some heavy winds but why take the chance. I store at home and am more worried about pine trees. I have them everywhere and their roots are shallow. It's still a wait and see, maybe she'll head out.

Of course with a 5-10% chance of "tropical storm winds" I may opt to leave the sails on and lash them. If I take them off this late in the season I may not put them back on.. Damn Sandy....

Playing a wait and watch game now.... Don't really want to cut my season short. We were planning to go out for the weekend..:doh:

Ya know if you keep going out in conditions like this, you might as just buy a fishing boat & move down to Gloucester;)
