And I'll say it again - What a MESS! Guess the fiberglass and rigging people will be really busy.

Insurance?

Do most people or anybody have insurance coverage for this? What are the permiums on, for example, a $50K boat? ...RickM...

Our boat is on the bay side of Okaloosa Island, does anyone have any idea when we will be allowed back on the island? We have been told that she came through without a scratch. If that's true she not only survived Opal but now Ivan. My concern now is to be able to get power (ac or solor) to keep the batteries charged and bilge pump working.

Ya Gotta Love Boats

I've seen a lot of these pileups over the years and it never ceases to amaze me how LITTLE damage the boats actually incur considering they've been thrown around like matchsticks! In the picture I see only two masts that are not on boats and only one boat without its mast. Of the rigs still standing I don't see any with broken stays, booms, or masts. Most of these boats still have pulpits and stanchions! Unbelievable! Hopefully a crane and some docklines wil return most of these to the water. Good luck to all you folks that don't know about your boats yet!!!!!

Scott, You're right

You do all that you are supposed to do and the ones that don't end up doing more damage to your boat because it stays where its supposed to. I double tied and had two anchors in the back to keep me off of the sea wall that you see in the photo. My boat is probably under all of the ones piled up. I should be able to get back on the Navy base tomorrow and survey the actual damage.

Main sails intact

It would appear that those that tied down their mains instead of removing them did not sustain any apparent damage to the sail (i.e. they are not shredded like that jib). What are we looking at in the foreground slightly left of center? Looks like part of a hull with a blue stripe.
