As the mid-Atlantic states gird for the hurricane, it will be interesting to see which strategy works better between hauling one's sailboat or tying up to a floating dock. Here in Virginia, York River Yacht Haven has five new floaters that will ride out the surge and high tide. Dozens of boaters tied to fixed docks chose to haul, since their boats will have considerably more trouble with the surge. We'll see shortly how it all plays out. If nothing else, the extensive warning period makes it a lot easier to strip and prepare the boat. Can't imagine what happens in a tornado, with no warning.

Twisters.

You are right Bill, very little warning for tornadoes. Fortunately they are narrow and short-lived. And often unconfirmed. We had one marina on Erie lose six jibs. The storm took them right off the furlers. Fifteen miles south of the lake a small town had damage. Nothing else was reported.

Dobled up on lines

Doubled on all lines, took sails off today. But I am glad she has currently reuced in strength. First time going through this, got me fingers crossed. Good luck to all.

Just hope the surge...

...isn't greater that the height of the pilings that the docks are attached to.
