I suffered minor damage to my Hunter 31, however im not sure how to proceed with the fix. I have contacted hunter and they said the manufacture no longer makes this toe rail. I hate to replace all of the toe rail. Any Ideas. Also hunter does not carry the exact striping for the hunter 31 they will just sell you rolls of 2" stripping tape that you can get at west marine. Glad to hear that your boat survived Isabelle. Only "damage" I had was losing the wind vane from the mast top. Hard to beat floating concrete docks. The water in Willoughby Bay came to within about 3 feet of the top of the pilings. Can't help with the toe rail. I replaced the stripes on our H31 last year with a 3 color (black, blue and grey) combination from West Marine. IMHO it looks better than the Hunter original. Do you have the missing piece?

Jim: Do you have the missing piece of the toe rail? I would think that a shop could weld it back (if you can find it). You should be able to have a sign shop that makes vinyl patch up your stripes. One of fellows in our marina did this for a Hunter owner and you can barely notice the patch. I am in the process of removing the bottom stripe on my H'31. It was starting to look pretty bad and I decided it actually looked better without anything (just my opinion).

Contact Taco Metals.

Jim: Maybe that was good that the piling and the toe rail became close friends. If the boat would have laid down, who knows what else may have been damaged. Anyway, Taco Metals makes toe rail. You should find our from them what they stock or can make. In your case, they may have a few scraps that could be used. I am glad for you that things were not worse.

Same thing happened to me

My H28.5 suffered similar damage of toerails and bow pulpit. The pulpit hooked to the piling when the storm surge receeded. Any information on toerails and bow pulpit would help me also. Thanks

Exact issue

When we bought our boat we has little issues with the same thing. Due to the fact that you cannot buy replacement tape from Hunter Marine we repainted ours completely and they look fabulous. I went with a darker blue and handpainted any pinstriping that was scratched with a tiny brush. All we had to do was tape each area to be painted , sanded down existing shine and repainted twice. Feel free to email me for more info rcolson@cox.net. Good luck.

Check with Cobbs

I have the Hunter 31 down the dock from you and before I bought her the previous owner had the same problem. Cobbs marina is (now) intimatly familiar with this toe rail and the insurance company paid for the replacement of both sides. If you need to get in contact with the previous owner boat call me at 757-426-3539 and I will get you in contact with him to answer any questions.

get a crabnet!!!

Borrow a crabnet and fish around around the dock pole. You will most likely find the piece. I had some cocerns years ago about metal fatigue on the toerail if it kept nudging the pole. I constructed a double fender and cross bar setup and it has kept me from banging the pole in heavy wind. yes the crossboard wears some...but that wolmanized boad is cheaply replaceable given the alternative.
