I hope that all of our East Coast friends weren't affected too badly by Hurricane Bill. I have a brother in Halifax that was hit pretty hard (and came out of it safely), but I read this morning that Bill claimed the life of a 7 year old girl in Maine.

Here's hoping that all of you on the East Coast came out safe and sound, and everything is "relatively" in tact.

Paul.

That girl was killed at Thunder Hole in Acadia. She and a few others were swept off the rocks by what they are calling a rogue wave. It is more likely a cyclic large swell that caught them by surprise when they got too close to the edge.

Other than some 20kt winds and large swells, we were relatively unaffected here in southern Maine.

Thanks for the thoughts though and I hope your brother's cleanup is not too bad.

Yeah, a real tragedy about that girl. As a father of two girls it broke my heart to wake up to that news on the weather channel this morning. I feel terrible for her family!

Still a long way to go before Hurricane season comes to an end. Long range models show possible development for something to potentially hit the outer banks this weekend and a bigger strorm developing that could strike the following weekend. It's a long way out though and forecasts are not really reliable more than 3 days out, if that.

I didn't think that Bill was going to have that much of an effect on the Eastern US, just by the way it was tracking, so the news of the little girl came to me as a bit of a surprise.

Clean up at this stage is mostly branches and trees...he hasn't gotten back me in regards to anything else more serious...thank goodness.

Jon....You reflect what my brother told me this morning, he says that there's about another 7 weeks of hurricane season left...let's all hope that Bill is as bad as it gets!

We went for a sail yesterday (Sunday). There was actually not much in the way of wind...kind of petered out in the afternoon. There was a fairly large swell, though...fun!

We heard the Coast Guard pan-pan about the folks swept into the water. That was sad. Tragic...we waited to hear updates, but didn't find out more until we saw the news when we got back home.

The surf crashing on the rocks and islands was spectacular...
