No not Southeast Florida and not Cape Hatteras and not the Gulf Coast of Texas. Let's try the Northwest Coast of Vancouver Island. The hurricane force winds that will arrive tomorrow will be the third in the last ten days with more expected again later this week. And the season is still young! No names, no publicity. These folks are tough. They probably don't even put a reef in the main. Associated waves are usually 30 feet and more. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Wow - now check out Western Lake Ontario on link.

Hey Gary, We have been having some very strange winds and weather as well this year on western Lake Ontario. You can link to our weather on the link you posted. Go to marine weather - Western Lake Ontario. We have had storm force winds since last night, dropping off to gale force this afternoon. Had to put in a reef, and go with the #3 jib. The radio was saying this morning that it was Mother Nature reminding us of Hurricane Hazel back in 1954. That one killed 82 people here in southern Ontario. Cheers,

Now HERE'S a weather statistic

In the October issue of Pacific Yachting, they say that the automatic weather station on Solander Island just off Vancouver Island's Brooks Peninsula has reported 460 cases of sustained hurricane force winds (64 knots or more) since 1985. That's an average of a little over twice a month. What a place to sail! Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335
