Just a little advertising here for the Cleveland Boat Show, next Friday(1/17) through the following Sunday(1/26). My marina will have the following Hunters at the show: H466, H426DS, H386, H356, H326, and H306. Plus the small ones like the Xcite and the new Liberty. I was at the marina on Wednesday, don't know where they were hiding the H426 Deck Saloon. I volunteered to help with the show the first weekend, come say hello. I should leave this part out but my marina will also have one each Tartan(3700), C&C(99), and Hanse(311). You can compare.

Too bad the Detroit Show rarely had ANY sailboats

The Detroit Boat sucks when it comes to sailboats. I go anyway, as, it helps me deal with winter. I do plan on going to the Strictly Sail show in Chicago at the end of the month. Maybe they will have one or two boats there, eh?

Mid-American Boat Show warm up

The Mid-American Boat Show at the IX center in Cleveland is a nice warm up for sailors. The main course is the Strictly Sail show at Navy Pier in Chicago. The true feast is still Annapolis. But since it's cold and bleak, I'll be headed to the IX center for a boating fix this Friday night. If anybody needs free tickets, let me know!

My favorite word...Free..

Michael, You said every sailors favorite word FREE. If you have any left, I would love a couple of tickets. Your assesment of the shows is right on. Cleveland gives one a warm feeling inside when the temperature is in the teens outside. Thanks, Bryce bcuster@neo.rr.com

Show Report.

A CLeveland Boat Show update(good to meet you Bryce). Last night I was the "salesperson" on the marina's H386, right at the top of the steps. People came up, turned left and immediately went to the H426DS. Then I would watch them, over to the H466, then to the Tartan 3700. But almost everyone went back to the H426. Yeah, a few even came on the H386 and the H356 next to it. But that H426 really draws them! :)

H426DS in Cleveland

Great to meet you as well Ed. And a special thank you to Michael O. for the tickets! After viewing all the boats from Harbor North, we also ended up back at the H426 for one last look.

Icy fantasy

The weather outside was painfully cold. But inside, ah yes, in the warm glow of the shiny fiberglass at the IX center, it was summer. That big Hunter 42 foot Deck Salon was impressive. If it had a real toe rail and a positive locking mechanism for the companionway steps, it would have been even better. Oh, and a nice big bow thruster would be sweet. Of course, so would finding a lottery winner at my house.

I'll be there on Friday 1-24!

My company is based in Cleveland, so, I'm looking forward to checking out the show on Friday. The Detroit Boat Show rarely has any sailboats, so, maybe I can get my fix in Cleveland. Looking forward to it...

I sold the H386!

Just joking. Actually the marina did sell a new H386 to one of our HOW friends. I'll let him announce it. And I'll let him tell you what boat he traded. It was pretty exciting watching the negotiations. Papers were signed right at closing last night. He and the First Mate want to commission a brand new one so "mine" is still for sale. The more I studied that boat the more impressed I became. Same with the H356, that boat is really well done. My wife said I could have either one if I put off my retirement for five years. That means Ladylove(our H37C) is safe. :)

I Really Enjoyed The Show

The last time we went to the Cleveland Boat Show was when it was downtown. We joined a small club last year and our winter outing this year was a trip to the Cleveland show this past weekend. I was really impressed with the Harbor North display. I did not climb the steps at the show (sorry Ed, I would have liked to have met you) but the boats, especially the 426DS is impressive from keel level. (That one thing you cannot see at Annapolis.) If any of you want to get a great look at boating in general, this is an excellent show. By the way, we decided to join the Great Lakes Cruising Club while we were there. They have an outstanding set of guides to the Great Lakes ports as part of the membership. Pushed me over the line. Around $300 the first year and about half of that thereafter. Think spring!!!
