Hi,

Does anyone know where the Windless Control Box or Contactors box is located on a 1998 Hunter 410?

Also, My owners manual shows several different types of boxes. I have the up/down foot switch only at the anchor well, no remote. Anyone know if I have a control box or a contactors?

My boat is 3 hours away and I am planning to install a washdown kit and want to tie it into the windless power.

Thanks

In my 2002 H410....

...there is an access panel in the front wall of the forward head. Remove it to gain access to the windlass and it's wiring.

You can buy a remote for $10 on Ebay. Look for jeep winch remote. I installed my wash down pump under the forward settee next to the thru hull valves. I picked up the sea water from the head intake or sink drain, don't remember. I ran new power from the panel so the washdown is on a separate breaker.

On our 1998 410, we have a contactor (solenoid) that reverses the current. I replaced ours because the down direction was sticking. As it turned out, the switch was what was sticking, not the contactor. I've also had to replace the motor, as the original burned up. The replacement was in stock at the Puerto Del Rey Marina in Fijardo, Puerto Rico and cost about $320.

Keep in mind that if you connect the washdown pump to the windlass you will need to connect it to the windlass power line (not the control circuit that comes off the main DC panel). This is powered from your start battery not your house battery, so just be aware of this.

Then again depending on what stuff you have on your boat and how it is wired it may not matter. On mine the house batteries can power the start batteries though the isolator because both the house (which goes though the inverter switch) and the engine alternator supply for charging are hooked to the input terminal of the isolator.
