I like my 26
I am pretty happy with my Hunter 26. It has a lot of room & is comfortable down below & sails very good in light air. The jib leaves a bit to be desired, perhaps I need more experience trimming it. The Mac 26x was the other boat I considered and I am curious why you do not like it. If I planned on trailering a lot I probably would choose the Mac, as it is narrower and appears to go on & off the trailer easier. The Hunter 26 is over 8 1/2 feet in the beam & technically is an oversize load, although I have never heard of anyone getting a permit or getting into trouble for not having one. It is a tight squeeze through the toolbooths arough Chicago. I believe the Hunter is a better built boat than the Mac, with generally heavier fiberglass & less unfinished fiberglass in the storage compartments, as is fitting in a more expensive boat. It appears a lot of the interior design of the 26x was borrowed from the Hunter 26. I do not regret choosing the Hunter over the Mac.
