I am considering buying a ready made winter cover for my 1986 Hunter 31. Has anyone purchased a cover from "The Canvas Store" or other company, and what was their experience. Were they happy with the purchase? Did it fit well? Would they recommend the company?

I can recommend Fairclough, Essex, CT

They made my cover in 1998 and other than a few dirty spots the cover is like new. Very pricey (IMO) but built well and should last 12-15 years or more. Will install with mast up or down and on the hard or in the water. Covers completely to the waterline. They have run a sale in the past during the winter, but that won't help you this year.

Another idea

I buy heavy-heavy duty tarp from Humphrey's in Philadelphia. Stronger than tradtional blue tarp and lighter than canvas. Every year I get a 10x15 for the front end and 20x15 from the mast aft, all for around $35. Bungie cords and clamps keep the thing on all week and all winter long while I'm sadly at work.

The Canvas Store

We had a cover made for our 340 two seasons ago. We had the side zippers installed and one at the stern. Quality was fine and it worked well. However, it came with line (small stuff) to attach the grommets to the boat. In wind, the line snapped. We replaced all the line with very small plastic electrical ties. Those worked great.
