Can someone please discribe the construction of Hunter ballast tanks on their water ballasted boats? While draining my H26's ballast tank, an irregular shaped silver dollar-sized flat piece of white rigid plastic came out of my drain. Could this be part of a liner for my ballast, or did I likely just suck it into my ballast tank when I last filled it? I'm planning on launching in the next few days and this has been worrying me. Thanks for any thoughts. BrianW

Is it a Left Over Fragment From Construction?

Like from where they drilled the hole for the vent, drain orthe valve, maybe?

Rick got it right if it's the quarter-sized slug from the 3 or 4 holes drilled behind the lower tank plate probably with a hole saw. It'd take some effort for it to re-align itself to fit back out of the hole but I suppose it's possible. Or it could be junk left on the hull before the tank top was glued on. There's no telling what a bored, itchy factory guy might leave in there. Here's a pic of the factory install of the tank top but if you open the tank drain and look underneath you'll see the drain holes that the slug probably came from.

Now stop worrying and go have a sail day, it looks like the weather is finally getting right. wahoo our boat goes back in for the season next week after a looong HOT steamy Summer.

Hunter's Quick Response

Thanks Mike, Rick and Seadaddler! The Hunter website doesn't even have a phone number listed for tech support, so I reluctantly emailed them and was AMAZED at their quick response! (30 minutes). They said that the thin plastic I described was not used in the ballast tank construction and was probably trash that was sucked into the tank while it was filling. Thanks for yall's input! Mike, I'm gonna take your advice and get her back into the water! BrianW

I agree with Rick. Check the drain holes in the hull, I think you will find they match the fiberglass piece you have minus the hole-saw blade's width. Good luck.
