Hunter Warranty

Greetings. We are dealing on a new Hunter but when I asked for a copy of the warranty (a 5 year warranty is being promoted,) I got a two page document that mostly covers the hull and gelcoat. Nothing is said about the wiring / electronics, engine, transmission, steering mechanism, standing rigging or instrumentation. Am I expecting too much? Has any one out there run into conflicts with Hunter because their problem "wasn't in the warranty"? Thank you in advance for any experiences you can share with us. Jim Owen.

Boats are components

A new boat is more like a house than a car. None of those components you mention are made by Hunter and they're all covered by their own warranties from their own manufacturers. Pretty standard stuff with boats. What I don't remember is if there's some period of time in which Hunter warrants it'll all work properly together. Is there such a period?

Hunter will do right by you

Though Phil's anaolgy about a boat being more like a car is very true, Hunter will stand behind everything on the boat for a year. I've purchased two new Hunters since 1996 and both Eddie Breedan and Greg Emerson at Hunter Customer Service are top notch guys who know their jobs and find ways, sometimes creative, to keep their clients happy. To the best of my knowledge after the first year any other warranties other than the hull warranty provided by Hunter, are then covered by the maker of the item. That gets complicated sometimes to be sure, but Hunter does ocassionally replace a manufacturer whose stuff is breaking or causing problems (see guest battery charger tread in archives). All in all a Hunter is what you pay for a great entry level boat, priced exceptionally well, but the thing they really excel at is customer service. Get Eddie and Greg onto your speed dial of your phone and you'll be happy they are where they are. Many other new manufacturers don't even have a national customer care dept. and refer you back to your dealer. Very few people get satisfaction there since dealers make money selling boats. Once your sale is over they are onto the next sale and provide very poor warranty service. Best of Luck, Bob Knott H380

Hunter support was good; dealer support poor

After the sale, the dealer I bought from ignored me, probably because I was 60 miles away. Hunter stood by their product and made it right. Other manufacturers wouldn't have had things fixed at a local (to me) boatyard at their expense. Dealers come and go, Hunter has been around for a long time by taking care of their customers.

hunter goes the distance

I just recently had new chainplates installed on my H410 by Hunter even though these plates weren't technically covered by the warranty. Hunter went to bat with me with Seldon to replace a product after their one-year-warranty expired. I've had a few dozen items fixed or replaced under the warranty without Hunter ever batting an eye. Indeed, if Hunter does any one thing right, it's their customer services. Can you buy a better boat? You bet. But I doubt that you'll find a better warranty anywhere.

Hunter is a class act

I purchased a 40.5 new. Ed Breeden and his staff have honoured every possible obligation, plus more. These are people you can trust. Good luck
